Pinking of You

To tell you the truth, I'm not a big "shoe girl", but I'm pretty sure these pink platforms have my name all over them...leave it to Jeffrey Campbell.

Tomorrow is moving day (round two). Moving is absolutely exhausting. I can't wait until we're all unpacked and we can make our new house a home!

By now, your turkey comas should have worn off. Last night, I got together with my whole family for our annual Thanksgiving potluck. Here's what I ate:

My aunt Sheila's specialty salad, my mom's sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce, my grandma's squash pie, and aunt Leah's turkey

After dinner, Noel and I met Sheila and Dani (who had just driven down from LA) at the Kraken for a game of pool and some post-Thanksgiving drinks. How I love that little shit-hole of a bar.

Tonight, I am going to Noel's 10 Year High School Reunion! Until then, I am going to enjoy a plan-less day and do absolutely nothing.

Give a little thanks why don't ya?

The holiday season has officially begun! Happy Thanksgiving to one and all! Here is a short list of the things I am thankful for:

-My amazing, supportive, loving, slightly dysfunctional family
-Sir Noel Churchill, my future roommate and the love of my life
-Ms. Morgan Grimm, my way-too-faraway best friend
-My health
-Q-tips. Because they just feel so good.
-Cheese. All kinds.

Enjoy the day!

Like a record player, round round round round

A few weeks ago, my search for a record player was finally put to rest, thanks to an old married couple I found on craigslist. It is exactly what I have been looking for and I'm so happy that I can call it my own!

Most of the records I have been listening to belong to my pack-rat of a father. However, I have been picking up a few here and there at various thrift stores around town.

I've been having a lot of fun listening to classic songs from the 60's and 70's the way that they were originally intended to sound. Listening to vinyl also makes listening to music much more of an activity. I can't wait to listen to records in my new home!

TGIF

Happy Friday! Looks like we're in for rain this weekend here in San Diego. I don't mind all that much, as long as it doesn't rain next weekend - a week from today, Noel and I will be moving into our first place together, just in time for the holidays... maybe this little Jewish girl can start collecting Christmas-tree ornaments after all!

Anyway, I wanted to remind you all that the Daylight Savings Sale is still in full effect! Select items are on sale for up to 30% off! Also, here's a sneak-peek of some new Lazybones that will be hitting the store soon:

Have a great weekend everyone! And stay tuned to learn how you can earn additional $avings when shopping with Stringbean Studio (hint: it might or might not involve twitter and/or youtube).

XOXO,

D

Animates

When I was a kid, my favorite mug to drink out of was plastered with an illustration of bunnies. I drank out of this mug for years (in fact, I still do) until one day, whilst admiring the illustration of cute little bunnies as I sipped on my hot chocolate, I realized that these bunnies were doing very naughty things. At first, I was upset and a little embarrassed: nobody had bothered to tell me all these years that these bunnies were having a fuck-fest all over my mug. After I got over the initial shock, I loved the mug even more.

Imagine how elated I was when I found out that these mugs are still manufactured, not to mention, they are CHEAP ($5.95 a pop or $22.00 for a set of 4)! They can be found here. And if bunnies aren't your thing, you can choose between elephants, penguins, and bears... and guess what? They're all doing it.

Makin' Moves

Received some big news this evening ... looks like this little sparrow is leaving the nest! That's right, I'm moving out of my parents' house. My man and I are shacking up - a 2-bedroom/1-bath duplex in the Encinitas area. Hopefully, we will get to move in at the end of the month. I can't wait to decorate! I'm so excited!

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?!

So apparently, I'm one of the last people to know about this youtube video, which is unusual considering the fact that I watch more youtube videos than I do television shows ... nonetheless, I figured that there has to be at least a few of you out there that have yet to bear witness to the hilarity that ensues when a seemingly acid-tripping nature freak unearths an amazing discovery in his front-yard: a double (or is it a triple?) rainbow across the sky! WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Enjoy:

Something in the Water

These watercolor paintings are incredible. Any artists out there want to teach me how to paint like unitedthread?

Dinosaur Toes

Last night, I was doing some late-night internet surfing and stumbled upon an inspired jewelry designer based out of Lynchburg, VA whose name is Danielle and claims to eat "more blueberry muffins than anyone on the planet". Her store name on Etsy is Dinosaur toes. She uses spent bullet shells, porcupine quills, shark teeth, leather, feathers, chains, and semiprecious stones. It just so happens that those are some of my favorite materials to work with. No wonder I dig her stuff so much! Check it out:

The Crate Escape

So apparently it's November... not entirely sure where October went. I hear they are playing Christmas music at Starbucks now. What's a little Jew-girl to do, especially when Anthropologie is killin' it in the Christmas ornament department?

Anyway, here are some things I am being inspired by lately:

This butterfly taxidermy shop:

This ivy-covered building:

These gorgeous bookends:

Repurposed Crates:

Antique test-tube rack, for sale here:

Avocado Art by John Azoni:

A Fine Fete Necklace, available at Anthropologie:
Laser-cut vinyl clocks by Pavel Sidorenko:

Tomorrow, I'm going on my Wednesday thrift circuit. The thrift-store gods served me well last weekend. Hopefully, they will be just as kind tomorrow. Wish me luck!
