Sneak Peek!

Real cool how Coachella sold out in 5 days. No, I did not get a ticket. Part of me thinks it's just a big ploy - call me a music snob, but in my opinion, the lineup isn't nearly as epic as last year. (Then again, 2010 kinda blew as far as new music goes). Could it be that ticket sales were so poor that they decided to announce that they "sold out" of tickets to stir up more interest and cause a buzz so that when they re-release tickets in a month or so, they really will sell out?

Anyway, if you are in the same boat as I am and just so happen to already have some money set aside for a ticket, you can always invest in some retail therapy and swipe some ice cold vintage! (I kid, I kid...sort of). All of these items will hit the shop in a few days (as soon as I get some sewing done). It's gonna be a good (and big) batch!

What's for dinner: scallops, marshmallows of the sea

It got a little fancy last night: roasted vegetables, Japanese Kale Salad, and Sea Scallops with Cilantro Gremolata and Ginger Lime Beurre Blanc Sauce (click the link for the recipe - it requires only a few ingredients, does not take that much time to make, and is absolutely delicious if I do say so myself):

I'm particularly proud of the the Kale salad - Kale is really hot right now. It's like the hipster collard greens. I was looking for a kale recipe and ended up combining 2 or 3 of my favorites. It ended up tasting like a seaweed salad, except warm. Here's what I came up with (again, super easy to make, only a few ingredients, and delicious):

What you need:

-Olive oil

-1 packet of mushrooms (or roughly, 2 cups)

-1/2 an onion

-1 bunch of kale

-Lemon

-Soy Sauce

-Garlic salt

-Pepper

-Sesame seeds (optional)

What you do:

In a large pan coated in olive oil, saute the mushrooms until they begin to brown. Chop the kale into 1/2 inch strips and add to the pan. Cover for 3-4 minutes, or until the kale begins to shrink. Chop the onion and add, stirring until they turn translucent.

Mix in the juice of half a lemon, add a drizzle of soy sauce, and salt and pepper to taste. You can also add the sesame seeds at this time (I would have added them in last night, but I didn't have any).

IKEA: Assembly so easy, a woman can do it!

Today I went to IKEA searching for an area rug and a coffee table. I've only been to IKEA once before (many years ago). Man, is that place a brain aneurysm or what? Needless to say, mission accomplished. I even managed to put the coffee table together all by myself when I got home. It's a big accomplishment considering I don't get along with tools too well. I can hang a picture on the wall, but anything involving more than a hammer slightly intimidates me for some reason. Probably because I'm a woman.

I've been on the prowl lately for a sheepskin rug for our living room. However, if I had an extra $600 at my disposal, I'd much rather prefer a giant, handmade doily rug.

IT'S OUT

After months of anticipation, the lineup for Coachella 2011 has arrived. I'm particularly excited to see YACHT again. They put on a great show. I'm also looking forward to Gogol Bordello, Mumford and Sons, & Sleigh Bells. Start saving for your festival passes and maybe we'll bump into each other come April!

Schoolhouse Rock

I'm not exactly sure how it transpired, but there appears to be a coherent "schoolhouse" theme repeating throughout our home (globe, flag, whales of the world poster, chalkboard, etc). I can't explain why, but I'm inspired by everything that is going on in these photos:

Good morning! I feel a little bit better than yesterday, but I'm definitely going to keep taking it easy. No work for me, I guess that's the upside of things. However, it would be nice to take a sick-day when I'm actually 100% healthy so that I could actually enjoy it.

Yesterday evening, when I was waiting for Noel to get home from work, I got into bed with Delilah and watched Land Before Time. What could be better than baby three-horns, long-necks, loud-mouths, and spike-tails? Oh, and Petri. We mustn't forget Petri. Here are some screenshots I took because I have no life:

It's another beautiful day here in San Diego. Maybe I'll sneak out in a little bit to take a walk on the beach.

I am a sicky. I just woke up from a two hour nap still tired. It's a shame too, considering the fact that it's a gorgeous day outside (mid seventies) and if my head didn't feel like it was about to fall off, I'd be at the beach getting some color instead of taking naps every half hour and tracking a pair of Frye banana leather campus boots on E-Bay (auction is ending in 2 hours and 34 minutes).

I went to the doctor earlier today and scored some antibiotics and some nasal spray. The doctor I go to is a tripper. He's 75-years-old and he said he would be a writer when I asked him what he would be if he wasn't a doctor. He didn't even hesitate for a moment. Then he told me that he could sense a vast amount of creativity in me. He also believes that everything that is supposed to happen in 2012 is actually going to happen in 2011. T-R-I-P-P-E-R. Love him.

Anyway, I know this cold is going around right now, so if you are sick like me, I wish you a speedy recovery, and if you are healthy, keep washing your hands and eating your fruits and veggies!

You can paint it any color you'd like

I've spent a lot of time the past few days in a decorating frenzy. It seems that whenever my boyfriend comes home from work, I'm in the midst of a craze: hammer in hand, nails resting between my lips, and having a critical staring-contest with a wall. Here are some of today's developments!

I'm thinking that this corner is giving the corner on the opposite wall (the one with the record player, the globe, Charlie the Unicorn, the picture gallery, and the Bird of Paradise plant a run for its money). Assembling this felt like a grown-up version of playing with blocks. Noel said that it reminded him of a shrine of sorts:

Scored this specimen drawer yesterday antiquing. It's definitely still a work-in-progress (those are a lot of compartments)!
