Hook is one of my favorite movies of all time (right up there with Clueless).

On the agenda for today - thrifting (naturally) and getting some sewing done. Took my sewing machine in for a check-up the other day. It was having some major issues (loopy stitches, tension problems, etc.) and it was becoming a huge drag to even sew a simple hem. Now, it sews even better than the first time I took it out of the box! Moral of the story: sewing machines need to be serviced at least once a year!

Little Lamb
Good things happening - looking forward to New York City at the end of the month. As for the near future, my boyfriend and I are going to see Bon Iver this Saturday!
It was hard to let a few of this week's items go (including this super cozy sweater). But the way I see it, letting go of favorites is just making room for new favorites!
Lately, I've been trying to restrain myself from getting anywhere near the brick-a-brack sections in thrift stores (I love my chotskies, but there comes a point in a girl's life where she just has to take it easy on the figurines). However, I couldn't pass these kitschy little lamb planters up:

Coloring outside of the lines
Paint-by-numbers - a popular hobby for young and old in the 50s and 60s. Paint-by-numbers kits served as art for the masses, making it possible for any person, artistically inclined or not, to paint a detailed portrait, still-life, or landscape.
Now, it seems that there is a big market not for the kits, but for the finished pieces. Call these collectors too lazy to complete their own masterpieces, or consider them collectors of automated folk-art.

Now check out these artists' paint-by-number modifications!
The week (or so) in pictures
Things have been a little crazy in San Diego the past few days - it began with torrential thunderstorms earlier this week, then a heatwave, followed by a citywide power outage? What is going on?!
Silly game
Since we don't have a TV, Noel and I are forced to come up with alternative forms of entertainment. There's nothing like an old-fashioned Nerf-gun target-practice session.
Behold! My succulent wreath!
Heirloom tomato caprese salad
Inspired by the new fall displays at Free People, I gathered some twigs from the front-yard and put together a jewelry-holder frame of sorts.
One of my favorite past-times is taking pictures of strangers' dogs.

The Jam: Neon Indian - Polish Girl
Really digging this fresh track by the low-fi jammers of Neon Indian. They really know how to put a song on repeat for me. Excited to see them later this month at the Belly Up!
I think one of the reasons I love this song so much is because it reminds me of Legends of Zelda. Also listen for Super Mario coin-hopping samples. Get that scrill:
